How many pay periods or Payroll are there in a calendar year?

Semimonthly Payroll

Employers who choose this schedule are able to pay employees on the 1st and 15th of the month, or on the 16th and last day of the month. Semimonthly pay includes 24 pay periods. This type of schedule is common for salaried workers.

What is the Difference in the Payroll 2021 Calendar?

The 2021 Fridays will feature 53 Fridays. This means that some employees may receive 27 biweekly check checks through the year.

Much of this will depend on whether your company gives employees paychecks on the 1st of January, Friday. If so, this marks the first of three months where employees will receive three paychecks in a single month. If this is the situation, the next three paycheck months in 2021 will be the months of July and December.
